Stabilize and Enable

"Only those who have patience to do simple things perfectly

ever acquire the skill to do difficult things easily."

James J. Corbett

What are the principles of Sustainable Horse Training

The principles of Sustainable Horse Training prioritize horse training's focus on the root rather than the symptoms of the problem, put the horse and the horse's need first, and use simple, structured training plans for long-term success.

1. Help the horse first. Training is only successful when the horse’s needs have priority over the owner’s wishes,  "outside voices" or tradition.

2. Cause over symptoms: this training seeks the underlying cause of behaviors (fear, tension, trauma) and solves the root of the problem. Conditioning symptoms away does not solve problems, fixing the source of them does.

3. A bonding relationship of trust between human and horse: When a horse forms a reliable bond to a person, trust exits and becomes the basis for both safer handling and optimized performance.

4. Self-regulation is key: A central goal is teaching horses to regulate themselves, just as a the trainer or rider must. Many everyday issues are easily solved if a horse can calm itself, an otherwise natural occurrence for horses in the wild.

5. Attention to detail: When you learn meticulous observation of the horse's signals, you can learn to understand the horse's language. When you can communicate "in horse", it is easier to both help and train a horse.

What are Basic principles that TIMO AMeruoso brings to Sustainable horse Training

As a Premium Trainer after Ameruoso, certain Sustainable Horse Training principles also come from learning from Timo Ameruoso, that I do not purport to me my own. Here to give credit where credit is due:

1. Help the horse first. Training is only successful when the horse’s needs—not the owner’s wishes or the “system” - are in focus.

2. Cause over symptoms: this training seeks the underlying cause of behaviors (fear, tension, trauma) and solves the root of the problem. Conditioning symptoms away does not solve problems, fixing the source of them does.

The principles of Sustainable Horse Training prioritize horse training's focus on the root rather than the symptoms of the problem, put the horse and the horse's need first, and use simple, structured training plans for long-term success.

  • Help the horse first. He frames his role as serving the horse’s needs—not the owner’s wishes or the “system.” Timo Ameruoso+1

  • Cause over symptoms. Training seeks the underlying cause of behaviors (fear, tension, trauma) rather than suppressing visible symptoms. Timo Ameruoso

  • Science-grounded method. His approach builds on neurobiology/psychotherapy mechanics and long-term documentation, leading to his Autodynamisches Reflexionsprinzip® (autodynamic reflection principle). Timo Ameruoso+1

  • Reflection, not desensitization. He cautions against routine desensitization. Instead, he uses structured exposure and reflection (“reductive convergence”) to change learned patterns safely. Timo Ameruoso

  • No food or voice rewards. He avoids feed- and voice-based reinforcement, aiming to trigger genuine cognitive reflection and lasting pattern change. Timo Ameruoso

  • Build the horse-to-human bond. The focus is on the horse forming a reliable attachment to the person, as the basis for safety and performance. Timo Ameruoso

  • Develop self-regulation. A central goal is teaching horses to calm and regulate themselves; he links deficits here to early weaning and addresses them with targeted techniques. Timo Ameruoso

  • Structured, progressive physical training. He adapts sports methods (intervals, supersets, pyramids) for symmetry, rehab, and sustainable performance, always within a strict, stepwise plan. Timo Ameruoso

  • Attention to detail. Progress comes from meticulous observation; “the details speak the horse’s language.” Timo Ameruoso+1

  • Willingness to rethink and go new ways. He positions the method as “re-thinking” horse work—being ready to challenge norms and continue learning. Timo Ameruoso
